THE ZARZUELA THEATRE PREMIERES “THE PHARAOH’S COURT” ON JANUARY 29

The Teatro de la Zarzuela is hosting a new production of “ La Corte de Faraón ”, one of the most iconic and entertaining zarzuelas in the Spanish repertoire, which can be enjoyed from January 29 to February 16 with performances from Wednesday to Sunday.

This adaptation will be musically directed by director Carlos Aragón , and will pay tribute to the original work by Guillermo Perrín and Miguel de Palacios , which since its premiere in 1910 has become one of the most entertaining zarzuelas on the scene.

The zarzuela tells in a comical way the adventures of Joseph , a young Hebrew who arrives as a slave to the court of the Pharaoh and must overcome the courtship of the Pharaoh, who falls in love with the young slave. The work explores themes of desire , power and the struggle between honor and temptation .

In addition to its success on stage, “ La Corte de Faraón ” was made into a film in 1985 with a star-studded cast that included Antonio Banderas , Ana Belén and Fernando Fernán Gómez . The film was critically acclaimed and awarded the Silver Shell at the San Sebastián Film Festival that same year.

With this new production, the Teatro de la Zarzuela offers a fresh version of one of the most beloved zarzuelas in the Spanish repertoire. Tickets are now available on the Teatro de la Zarzuela website.
