2025/01/10
The Conde Duque Cultural Center will host the exhibition “From Toys to Heaven” in its Exhibition Room 1 , an exhibition that covers 125 years of contemporary history through a selection of antique toys belonging to the Quiroga-Monte private collection.
The exhibition presents original pieces from the best Spanish toymakers from 1860 to 1985 , showing the relationship between toys and socioeconomic, technical, cultural and political changes. This evolution is a faithful reflection of the customs , fashions , inventions and events that marked a century of transformation in Spain.
The exhibition offers a fascinating collection of vintage toys, including means of transport, dolls, board games and dioramas. One of the highlights is the first city bus introduced in Barcelona by the English firm Tilling Stevens in 1922. In addition, there are electric locomotives, steam liners, aeroplanes and airships.
The exhibition also includes dioramas and representations of social spaces such as carousels, stables with horses or school classrooms and emblematic models of dolls such as Mariquita Pérez, Cayetana or Gisela, which reflect the children's fashion of the 20th century.
This exhibition will be open to the public free of charge until 9 March 2025. It is an opportunity for the younger generations to discover how children of the past used to play. You can find more information on the official website.
