FROM THE WORKSHOP TO THE CATWALK: DISCOVER CARLOTA BARRERA'S CREATIVE PROCESS IN AN EXHIBITION IN MATADERO MADRID
2024/05/06
Carlota Barrera, the renowned Spanish fashion brand born in London, challenges traditional fashion conventions by opening its first exhibition, "Conversations on Craft Vol.1" , in Madrid from May 8 to 13 . The emblematic Design Center will be the setting chosen by the brand to recreate the most intimate corners of its universe, inviting an intergenerational conversation that urges us to stop, reflect and appreciate the value of artisanal work in contemporary fashion.
Sharing the process behind her collections previously presented in London, Paris, Madrid and Barcelona, Carlota Barrera seeks to convey the beauty of craftsmanship in dialogue with fashion, highlighting the importance of time dedicated to learning and producing traditional crafts. Their collections form a cohesive universe that requires meticulous conception and elaboration, fusing the individual and the collective together with professionals who turn the garments into true works of art.
The exhibition will exhibit pieces made in collaboration with prominent artisans such as Ábatte, Javier Sánchez Medina, Steve Mono, Carmen Mª Castañeda, Aldanondoyfdez and Estaños de Pedraza. These pieces combine traditional techniques with innovative materials, creating unique visual effects that pay tribute to crafts with a long history. From suit and silk to manual embroidery with PVC, the exhibition showcases a wide range of artisanal skills that are intertwined with the creative vision of Carlota Barrera.
The fundamental objective of the exhibition is to draw the viewer's attention away from mass and impersonal production, bringing it closer to a human process full of imperfections and personal gestures. The exhibition will be divided into different stages of the production process, from initial references to photographic campaigns and fashion shows, allowing visitors to immerse themselves in the creative world of the brand.
In addition, after having been awarded the Madrid Capital de Moda 2022 award by the Madrid City Council, Carlota Barrera will open a meeting space in Central de Diseño for designers, artisans, dressmakers, pattern makers, seamstresses, tailors and other industry professionals, as well as for students who will shape the future of fashion. The objective is to encourage intergenerational dialogue, share different creative approaches and promote the transfer of knowledge to new generations.
The exhibition will be open to the public from May 8 to 13 at Central de Diseño , Matadero Madrid, Nave 17 . Admission is free, and it is recommended to check the visiting hours.
