“CHAVELA, THE LAST SHAMAN” COMES TO THE MARQUINA THEATRE

From February 22 to May 4, the Marquina Theater hosts “ Chavela, the last shaman ”, a musical show that pays tribute to the Mexican singer of Costa Rican origin Chavela Vargas . The production features the participation of great artists such as the singer Rozalén and the actress Luisa Gavasa , along with live music by Alejandro Pelayo.

The work promises an intimate and emotional connection with Chavela Vargas, who sings and guides the audience through her universe, leaving a message about the immortality of those who live and die with authenticity .

The staging evokes a magical realism , where the artist becomes a symbol of rebellion and sincerity . Through the characters and memories of the singer, the work teaches the public to live with passion and freedom .

Chavela Vargas, born in Costa Rica in 1919, was a singer of rancheras and traditional Mexican music . From a young age, she displayed an independent spirit and broke social conventions, moving to Mexico in her teens in search of freedom.

Vargas sang melodies of love and heartbreak with a deep , heartbreaking voice. Her interpretations of songs such as La Llorona and Paloma Negra made her a legend of Mexican music.
