2024/04/15

The Vicálvaro District is preparing for an exciting literary celebration with a series of cultural events that will take place throughout the month of April. From the LIBROFÓRUM project Literary Contest awards gala to the uninterrupted reading of a work by Jules Verne, the local community is ready to immerse itself in the world of letters and imagination.

The inaugural event, the Awards Gala of the Literary Contest of the LIBROFÓRUM project , will be chaired by the President Councilor of the Vicálvaro District. It will take place on April 22 and 23 in the assembly hall of the El Madroño Cultural Center, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. This contest aims to highlight local literary talent and promote creativity among the residents of Vicálvaro.

One of the most notable activities is the uninterrupted reading of the work "Journey to the Center of the Earth" by Jules Verne . This event will take place on Tuesday, April 23 at the Valdebernardo Cultural Center, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Readers will be given copies of books, while they enjoy this joint reading that promotes the love of classic literature.

On Book Day, April 26, the Gardens in front of the El Madroño Cultural Center will become the scene of a commemorative event. From 5:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. , there will be a series of activities for all ages. From exhibitions of books on the history of Vicálvaro to children's bookmark and riddle workshops, this event seeks to foster a love of reading and culture among the inhabitants of the district.

The participation of the Jarcha Bookstore , which celebrates its 50 years of activity in the district , is especially notable. The bookstore will offer a book exhibition, book signing and activities for the whole family, including family story-telling and presentations by local writers.

Continuing with the activities related to Book Day in the Vicálvaro district, a series of additional events will be held that promise to delight literature lovers of all ages.

On Saturday, April 20 , at 12:30 p.m. , the El Cañaveral linear garden (Calle Imperio Argentina, 71) will be the scene of a unique theatrical presentation . The Atelana Teatro company will present "El Libro de Bigotof" , a play designed especially for family audiences. This theatrical production not only entertains, but also highlights the importance of books, reading and sustainable habits by showing how easy it is to create elements of expression by recycling.

On Tuesday, April 23 , at the Fuente de San Pedro Cultural Center , a new edition of Bookcrossing will take place, an activity that has been a success for more than a decade in the district. From 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. , the books will be available for anyone interested to pick up and enjoy reading. This initiative, which promotes the circulation of books and the reuse of copies, seeks to give them a second life and prevent them from accumulating dust on the shelves. Readers will be able to review the books and then put them back into circulation so that others can enjoy them.

Finally, on Saturday, April 27 , at 12:00 p.m. , the Valdebernardo Cultural Center will host Arte Fusión Títeres , who will present "Don Quixote Rides Again." This montage offers a unique perspective of Cervantes' work by narrating it from the eyes of the characters themselves, Quixote and Sancho Panza, but also from the eyes of two mice who have known the adventures of the knight and his squire for generations. With a playful and surprising approach, this performance promises to entertain and captivate family audiences.

With these activities, the Vicálvaro district joins the celebration of Book Day, offering a wide range of cultural events to enjoy in community and foster the love of reading and literature.
