CALLE wants to cheer you up

In its IX edition, CALLE arrives to Lavapiés for another year to cheer you up from May 4 to 29

A festival of 50 artistic interventions that takes as its canvas the facades of the premises of our beloved neighborhood of Lavapiés, where art and the daily life of our streets and our people merge.

Encourage YOU to feel and live the colors of your city, encourage you to merge again with the streets of Lavapiés and be part of our great ART festival; encourage YOU to look from the heart and give smiles; encourage YOU to record new memories of light that erase the gloomy ones.

In addition to the 50 interventions in the contest, our guest artist will be the internationally renowned Miguel Ángel Belinchón “Belin” , in charge of creating the work Alhambra that will kick off the rest of the interventions.

And, after the overwhelming success in the previous edition, OUR SENIORS could not be missing, who are once again our SPECIAL GUEST ARTISTS for their example of dedication, joy and illusion with their work "Joy" : tears or drops of colors that open towards the sky. Exterior. Enlarged, they allow framing different images painted by the rest of the participants. What this work inspires us is "encourage yourself": movement, dance, outdoor activities, going out again, meeting again.

CALLE returns to AnimARTE, to immerse yourself in the illusion and live moments of hope, encourage our locals, our bars, our restaurants, our neighbors, our neighborhood, our city, our artists, and everyone who wants be part of our life in Lavapiés. Proof of this is our poster created by the artist Maite Ortega, who has managed to perfectly capture the spirit of CALLE 2022.

Calendar

• May 4 – Guest Artist:
Thanks to the Association of Merchants and Businessmen of Lavapiés, curated by the Madrid Street Art Project and with the support of the Madrid City Council and Cervezas Alhambra , CALLE will start on May 4 with the work Alhambra, a first explosion of urban art outside of contest by our guest artist " Belin ", an internationally recognized artist.

Alhambra work: Date of the intervention: from May 4 to 6. Location: Magarca furniture showcase on Calle Sombrerería, 24.

• May 7 – Our elders and guest artists:
Our artists from the Municipal Centers for the Elderly of the Central District will begin their intervention at the Wanderer store, located at 42 Amparo Street.

• May 9 to 15 – Artists contest:
There will be 50 contest interventions that will materialize in our streets in the week of May 9 to 15 and will be very varied, both in relation to the support and the materials used.

Among the numerous works, visitors will be able to enjoy painting on glass, as in the case of the artists Mr. Tioda, Elisabeth Karin or Pyramid; installations in shop windows or facades such as those by Ángela Alonso or Catoncita; or photographic works such as Analogue Resistance. In addition, there will be no shortage of painting on facades, by artists such as Ase Torralba, Sonja Ben or Mateu Targa.

• May 13 to 22:
The public will be able to vote for their favorite work until 00:00 on Sunday 22. Voting can be done on the web: www.enlavapies.com

• May 14 to 29:
The public will be able to enjoy guided tours of approximately one hour through the works, visits can be made with educated pets. Check schedules and prices at www.enlavapies.com

On May 24, the 3 prizes will be awarded: the jury, the public and the Alhambra prize.
Jury Prize awarded by an independent jury, which will award a prize of €1,200 to the chosen intervention.
Alhambra Award, which will be awarded to the most valued CALLE 2022 artist through a jury appointed by Cervezas Alhambra. The prize will be €800.
Audience Award, which will be awarded to the most valued intervention through CALLE's social networks, and will be endowed with €500.
